Bars & Restaurants
Bar none, the best food I've ever had has been at the Red Stag. Calling it a "supper club" might be a stretch, but it's really affordable if you go on Cheap Date Night (Tuesday) and it's extremely vegetarian friendly. The atmosphere is romantic, and slightly grungy in the best possible way.
509 1st Avenue Northeast
Psycho Suzie's is a slice of tiki bar heaven. The the ambience is wonderfully ridiculous and they have excellent pizza , but more importantly, you can get the strongest tropical drinks north of the equator. I've seen completely respectable citizens get kicked out for throwing back too many mai tais. A good time is sure to be had.
1900 Marshall Streeet NE
So Tracy's has zero ambience, a weird crowd, and pretty good food. That said, it's my favorite bar in town. It's easy going, offers free popcorn, and has an array of Surly of tap.
2207 East Franklin Avenue
Feeling bored? Go to the 331. Any night of the week you can find live music, trivia, spelling bees etc. My favorite is Tuesday night's BLINGO (aka bingo to the tune of old rap music).
331 13th Avenue Northeast
Shops
The best outdoors store around, in my opinion. The staff is awesome and incredibly knowledgable. If you're looking for a deal, there's an entire floor of sale items and a free climbing cave to play around in.
309 Cedar Ave S
This is the mecca of unique, quirky antiques in Minneapolis. Lots of retro items, great art, and a great place to get decorating ideas.
4944 Xerxes Ave
Besides carrying all the book making essentials, the MCBA has great, locally made posters, cards, and journals. There's also a great little on-site cafe to check out.
1011 Washington Avenue S # 100
Galleries & Art Spaces
A great place to spend the first Thursday of the month with endless shops and galleries.
1500 Jackson Street NE
This gallery always seems to have something interesting going on, and its located near a strip of cute bars and cafes in the St. Anthony Main neighborhood. They also have an annual haunted house that I've heard is absolutely terrifying...if you're into that.
518 Second St. SE
ETC.
This is a great place to ride your bike to and explore. The falls are pretty spectacular, and it's free!
